The amendment to the Consumer Protection Act (the so-called “button amendment”) introduced a number of new obligations that e-shop owners must comply with. Some of them are easy to implement, while others require adjustments to your e-shop. In this guide, we will show you how to meet these requirements and easily configure them in your store without programming knowledge.
In the following guides, we use the Toret Toolkit plugin, which was specifically created to help modify your e-shop in accordance with consumer protection law. Our documentation will help you with installation. Below, we will walk through the configuration of features related to consumer protection requirements.
Displaying shipping costs
One of the new obligations is to inform customers about shipping methods and costs before they add a product to the cart. With the Toolkit plugin, you can automatically load shipping methods and their prices directly from your shipping settings. This allows you to display up-to-date prices directly on product pages without manual updates. How to set it up?
1. In the Toret Toolkit plugin settings, go to the Shipping tab.

2. Enable display on the product page by checking the Display on product page checkbox.

3. Enter the link text, e.g. “View shipping cost.” When the customer clicks the link, a pop-up window with shipping information will open.

4. From the list, you can exclude free shipping by checking it. If you want to display it, leave the field unchecked.

5. Select a hook from the dropdown. This determines where the link will appear on the product page. If you’re unsure where each hook is located, see the visual guide.

6. Click Save.

You have now configured shipping cost display on product pages. See how it works in our test store.

If you prefer to list shipping methods on a separate page, you can use the shortcode [toret_toolkit_shippings]. Place it on the selected page where you want shipping details displayed. Prices and methods will also load automatically here.
How to display the lowest price in the last 30 days
Under the amendment to the Consumer Protection Act, you are required to inform customers about the lowest price in the last 30 days. This price must also be used as the basis for calculating discounts. The Toret Toolkit plugin allows you to display the lowest price as text and in a chart. You can choose one or both options. Let’s look at setting up the text display.
1. In the Toolkit plugin, go to the Products tab.

2. First, enable price tracking. In the Sales price tracking section, check Enable product price tracking and sales price validation and save the change.

3. Scroll down. In the Lowest price information section, check Display information about the lowest price in the last 30 days (1). You can edit the text displayed before the price (2) and choose the hook (3) to determine placement. See the visual guide for hook locations.
Select the source for calculating the lowest price (4). According to the law, we recommend Lowest price from both (regular and sale). You can also choose to calculate only from regular prices or only from sale prices.

4. Save your changes.
You have now configured the display of the lowest price for the last 30 days.
How to display a 30-day price history chart
In addition to text display (see above), the Toolkit plugin can also display a price history chart showing the lowest price in the last 30 days.
1. In the Toolkit plugin, go to the Products tab.

2. Enable price tracking as described above.

3. Scroll down. In the Lowest price information section, check Display link to chart on product page (1). The chart will appear in a pop-up after clicking the link. You can edit the link text (2) and choose the hook (3). See the visual guide for hook placement.
Select the source for calculating the lowest price. We recommend choosing Lowest price from both (regular and sale) according to legal requirements.

5. Save your changes.
You have now configured the 30-day price history chart display.
Updating the checkout button text
The amendment also regulates the wording of the order button. You can easily modify it using Toolkit.
1. In the Toolkit plugin administration, go to the Checkout tab.

2. In the Submit button section, check the box to change the button text.

3. You will find predefined button texts approved by legal experts and compliant with the amendment.

4. Click Save.

The order button text is now compliant with legal requirements.
The plugin also allows you to insert custom button text. However, in that case, the wording may not comply with legislation.
Setting specific email attachments
Another obligation under consumer protection law is to provide necessary product information (manuals, instructions, safety information) on a durable medium. This means that if you do not include them in printed form with the product, you must send them as email attachments—typically PDFs. Let’s see how to configure specific attachments based on purchased products using Toolkit.
1. Open the product settings for the product to which you want to attach a file. In the Product data section, click the Toret email attachments tab.

2. Click Add email attachment.

3. A new row will appear. Click the icon to open the media library and upload or select the file to attach.

4. In the Allowed countries field, specify for which customer countries the attachment should be sent. This allows you to send correct language versions. Leave empty to send without restriction.

5. In Allowed order statuses, select the order status when the attachment should be added to the automatic WooCommerce email.

6. Save the product changes.
You have now configured a specific attachment for the product. You can add as many attachments as needed.
How to automatically send terms and conditions
In addition to manuals, you must also send your terms and conditions to customers. Unlike manuals, these must be set for all orders. How to configure this with Toolkit?
1. In the Toolkit plugin settings, go to the Email attachments tab.

2. Select the order status when the terms and conditions should be sent and click Add email attachment. (Usually, terms and conditions are sent with the New order status.)

3. A new row will appear. Click the icon in the File path column to select or upload the attachment.

4. In the Allowed countries field, select the countries for which the attachment should be sent. Leave empty to send regardless of customer country.

You have now configured the attachment for the automatic new order email.
Meet consumer protection requirements easily and correctly
With the Toret Toolkit plugin, you can meet legal e-shop requirements imposed by the consumer law amendment without programming knowledge. Toolkit also offers additional features to help you comply with the Price Act and the Digital Services Act.
Beyond legal compliance, Toolkit can improve the customer journey and increase conversions with features such as Back in Stock notifications, Product inquiry, or checkout field autocomplete.
It also allows you to streamline order management by adding custom order statuses (returns, handed over to carrier), new automatic emails (unpaid or cancelled order notifications, return status updates), custom surcharges, or additional email attachments.
