How to quickly and easily add the GoPay payment gateway to a WooCommerce e-shop

GoPay is a popular payment gateway that has been operating on the Czech market for more than ten years. Customers can use it to pay with popular payment methods such as card payments, online bank transfers, or electronic wallets – a total of 55 payment methods in 8 currencies and 19 languages.

The GoPay payment gateway is clear, modern, and secure. It also offers advanced features such as card tokenization, management of saved cards, and the option to resume an unfinished payment.

In today’s article, we’ll walk you through a simple, step-by-step guide on how to implement the GoPay payment gateway into your WooCommerce e-shop.

1. Submitting a request

The first step to obtaining a payment gateway is registration with the service provider – in this case, GoPay. First, visit www.gopay.com/cs/ and click the I’m interested button.

You’ll be redirected to an inquiry form where you fill in your personal details, such as first name, last name, email, and phone number. You also need to check the box confirming that you agree to the processing of personal data.

In the next step, you’ll fill in information about your company, including country of residence (selected from a list), company ID, company name, street and house number, city, and ZIP code. After completing these fields, click Continue.

In this step, you’ll enter information about your website, including the website URL (you can indicate whether it’s publicly accessible), select the currency, and choose the expected monthly payment volume from the list.

After submitting the completed form, you can expect a custom price offer to be sent to your email within three days.

2. Registration, review, and contract

Next, you’ll receive the mentioned email with the price offer and information about the next steps from a GoPay account manager, who will guide you through the rest of the process. The offer may be included as an attachment called the Registration Form (an Excel file), which you’ll fill in if you agree with the offer.

If you accept the GoPay payment gateway offer, save the Registration Form from the email attachment to your computer and create a screenshot of the header of your bank account.

Tip: How to take a screenshot? Windows includes the Snipping Tool (or Snip & Sketch) for this purpose. You can find it in the Start menu or open it by pressing the “Print Screen” or “Prt Scr” key.

Make sure the screenshot clearly shows the account holder and account number, and attach it to the email along with the completed Registration Form.

GoPay will then review your e-shop to verify that all legally required information is published on your website, what goods or services you sell, and—if you’re a company—who the beneficial owner is. If needed, GoPay will contact you to request additional or clarifying information.

Mandatory information for e-shops includes the company name, address, company ID, terms and conditions, contact details, complaints procedure, warranty information, and other required elements of a sales outlet. You can find more details, for example, in the article Sales outlet requirements (What information must my website contain?).

The result of the review is either approval or rejection of cooperation. In both cases, you’ll be informed of the outcome.

If approved, you’ll receive an email with integration and testing credentials that allow you to test the payment gateway in a sandbox environment. You’ll also receive the contract, which must be electronically signed via the DocuSign application. There, you’ll also review all the details you entered in the original registration form.

You can also watch the following video showing how to sign a contract in DocuSign.

3. Integrating the GoPay payment gateway into a WooCommerce e-shop

After the contract is signed, it’s time to start integrating the GoPay payment gateway into your e-shop. The entire integration process consists of the following steps:

  • purchasing the GoPay plugin and performing the basic setup
  • entering test credentials into the plugin and testing payments
  • verification of completed tests by GoPay
  • obtaining and implementing production credentials into the plugin
  • advanced configuration of plugin options and payments

a. Purchasing the plugin and basic setup

A simple way to connect your e-shop with the GoPay payment gateway is the Toret GoPay Inline plugin. After purchasing the plugin license, download it, install it like any other WordPress plugin, and activate the payment gateway. The detailed documentation will guide you through the process.

The GoPay Inline plugin offers fast integration of the payment gateway without the need for programming. It allows you to offer GoPay payment methods and features directly in your e-shop checkout.

Your customers will be able to pay using:

  • payment cards
  • online bank transfers
  • digital wallets such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, GoPay, and PayPal
  • alternative payment methods like Bitcoin, paysafecard, Premium SMS, M-Payment, and Click to Pay

You’ll also appreciate support for 8 currencies and 19 languages, refunds, availability settings, payment method sorting, and other useful features.

b. Testing

After signing the contract with GoPay, you’ll receive a test integration sheet by email. These credentials are required to test the payment gateway in a test environment. It’s important to run test payments to ensure the GoPay payment gateway works as expected before going live.

The sheet includes test credentials for the plugin, test card numbers for trial payments, and detailed instructions.

In the video below, you can see how to implement the credentials to connect WooCommerce with the GoPay Inline payment gateway. This is how you enter both test and later production credentials into the plugin.

c. Verification of completed testing

Once testing is complete, send an email to [email protected]. GoPay staff will then verify that you’ve successfully integrated the GoPay payment gateway into your e-shop. If everything is correct, you’ll receive production credentials for live operation.

d. Obtaining production credentials and implementing them

GoPay will send the live production credentials after verification via SMS to your phone number (the number provided in the registration form). Replace the test credentials in the plugin with these production credentials to enable real payments. From this point on, you can sell products and services to real customers via the GoPay payment gateway.

e. Configuring advanced payment and plugin options

The GoPay payment gateway plugin offers many options for maximum customization to your e-shop’s needs. These can be configured now—for example, limiting payment method availability by shipping method or country, setting the default gateway language, sorting payment methods, changing order status based on payment result, and more. The documentation will guide you through the entire setup, just as it does the full integration process.

As you can see, integrating the GoPay payment gateway into a WooCommerce e-shop is not complicated at all. Even without programming knowledge, you can easily handle it using the Toret GoPay Inline plugin. Offer your customers convenient payments with this payment gateway.
