QR code payment is often underestimated, yet its impact on the success of an online store can be enormous. Take a look with us at what is behind it.
In e-commerce, small details often decide. Faster delivery, a clearer cart, or the right payment method. The payment process is the moment when the customer makes the final decision — whether to complete the purchase or leave. And one option that matters more today than many store owners realize is QR code payment.
Customers still want bank transfers
Bank transfer remains the third most popular payment method — right after card payments and e-wallets. It is not outdated, but a conscious choice. Up to 58% of customers do not want to enter their card details or do not trust payment apps. With a bank transfer, these concerns disappear.

The problem with a traditional bank transfer, however, lies in its inconvenience. Manually entering payment details is time-consuming and prone to errors. This is where the QR code comes into play.
QR payment = speed and simplicity
Paying via QR code significantly simplifies the entire process. The customer simply scans the code and confirms the payment in their banking app. The whole transfer usually takes 5–10 seconds, while a traditional bank transfer can take 30 to 120 seconds.
In practice, this means:
- up to 90% time savings when entering payment details
- a higher probability that the customer will pay immediately
- fewer errors and incomplete orders

The biggest problem with QR payments? They are often not available
Today, 82% of customers use QR payments at least occasionally, but only if online stores offer them. At the same time, 63% of customers say they would like to use them more often.
Another crucial number: 18% of customers do not complete a purchase if they cannot find their preferred payment method at checkout. This directly affects cart abandonment rates and overall revenue.
QR payments also make sense for online stores
QR payments are beneficial not only for customers but also from the store’s perspective.
Higher conversions and fewer incomplete payments
Offering QR code payment leads to higher conversions. The cart abandonment rate with QR payments is below 10%, compared to 20% with card payments.
With manual bank transfers, there is also a high failure rate — 20 to 30% of payments are never completed due to errors or delays. A QR code eliminates these problems, and the payment completion rate exceeds 90%.

No fees and no chargebacks
QR payments are processed as a standard bank transfer. This means:
- no transaction fees like with payment gateways
- no chargebacks that could result in forced refunds
From both a cost and administrative perspective, this is a highly efficient solution.
Money almost instantly
While standard transfers or payment gateways may credit funds with a delay, QR payments are processed instantly. The money reaches your account within seconds, improving cash flow and speeding up order fulfillment.
How to implement QR payments in your online store
Enabling QR payments in your online store is not technically complicated. You can do it yourself within minutes using a QR payment plugin.
QR payments
Display a payment QR code on the thank you page, in the customer account, in emails, and on invoices to make bank transfer payments easier. The plugin generates codes for domestic and international (SEPA) payments, including correct account assignment. With detailed settings, you can customize everything exactly as you need.
QR = small change, big impact
QR payments are not just a “nice to have” feature. For many customers, they represent a fast, secure, and convenient way to pay that they also expect in online stores. Offering them can reduce cart abandonment, increase conversions, and at the same time save fees and time. Are you already offering them in your store?
